Treatment Guidelines

  • Avoid eating anything else at least an hour before and after trying a treament, unless a treatment called for it to be taken before or after meals. This is to avoid mixing the food medicine with other foods that is not part of the treatment. This way it will be easier to gauge on the effectiveness of the treatment and prevent it from being neutralized or deemed ineffective by other foods.
  • It is best to embark on a food fast as a regular habit, or as indicated for certain ailments so as to cleanse the system first of toxic elements that are often the cause of those ailments. It usually takes longer to heal when a body is full of toxic materials that need to be eliminated.

  • Do positive things and eliminate gradually negative ones. Get plenty of fresh air, clean water, rest, relaxation and quality sleep. Increase fresh and healthy foods intake - herbs, fruits, legumes, vegetables, whole grains. Do moderate exercises and reduce mental stress. Avoid simple sugars, alcohol, drug abuse, greasy foods and harmful fats. Practicing this healthy lifestyle goes in line with making whole foods medicine effective and potent.

  • Be wary of both internal and external (skin) allergies. Even if there is no allergy, sensitivity may develop even for common whole foods. Just be alert for it. Look out for headaches, stomach cramps, diarrhea, itch or rash or any other unusual symptoms.

  • If trying a herb for the first time, take half - 1 teaspoon of each in 1 glass water, preferably warm. If no difference is felt after awhile, it is most likely to be safe. If there is a recommended dosage, don't exceed it. If there is a range to a dosage, start with the smaller one. If over 65, always start small and increase gradually. Always be conservative when it comes to children, don't give herbs to children under two.

  • Use common sense. If a particular remedy is taking an unusually long time to work (for eg. a simple ailment that's taking weeks and weeks to go away), then is it obviously not effective. Try another one. Be on the cautious side. If a condition persists no matter what home treatment is used, it's time to consult a medical professional. Self-diagnosis can be dangerous.

  • You probably don't need to follow a prescribed period of treatment. Try a break in-between periods. For example, when a prescription suggest a week of treatment on a daily basis, stop a day and see if the symptoms come back. If it doesn't, that's all the period you need for that treatment to work. No one really needs too much of a good thing.

  • Prepare mixtures in china or glass utensils. It is preferable to drink the mixtures on its own, although sugar or honey is indicated to taste. Honey, however, is always preferred over sugar as it is in itself, a medicine. For chronic conditions, the general dosage is 1 cup 3x daily, while for acute conditions, up to 6x daily.

  • Always practice good hygiene. Wash the hands thoroughly before handling foods. Use only thoroughly cleansed utensils or equipment for preparing applications.
