47. Do not drink in one gulp.
Sipping, with breaks in-between, is more healthy and satisfying. It prevents the habit of doing things in haste. Additionally, keep the cup away after the first sip to prevent one from breathing in and polluting the water. (See points 13 & 49).

48. Avoid hot drinks.
Hot items can cause damage to the teeth and may be cancer-causing.

49. Do not blow into the water before drinking.
Drink the water when cool, blowing into the water is polluting and cause the transmission of viral diseases. (See point 13).

50. Do not drink with the face facing downwards.
When one is lying down with the stomach at the bottom, or when licking water from the palms, or drinking water from a water-cooler while standing. These are not natural positions.

51. Do not drink while standing.
It may cause a stomach-ache, and distending of the stomach.

52. Do not drink alcohol.
Numerous diseases have been attributed to alcohol like dyspeptic trouble, peptic ulceration, stomach cancer, pancreatitis, cirrhosis of the liver, vitamin deficiency and coronary heart disease, not to mention losing one's senses when intoxicated. Even a little alcohol may lead to addiction. The wine industry may harp on the benefits of wine alcohol to the heart, but pure grape juice has the same effect, and it is not addictive, nor intoxicating.

53. The one-third rule.
Even if you have to eat more, follow the one-third rule. Fill the stomach with one-third food, one-third liquid, and one-third empty. This rule helps in proper digestion and promotes mental clarity.

54. Short term fasting.
The digestive system is like a machine that goes on and on and will break down if not given a break. Some cultures are used to fasting with complete abstinence from food and drink during the day. If not practicing complete abstinence, drink plenty of fruit and vegetable juices during the fast, and take plenty of rest. The ideal would be to be on a periodic fast 2x a week, but not on consecutive days.

55. Start the day with a glass of water.
Upon awakening in the morning, drink a glass of plain water, preferably one that has been left overnight. This helps to cleanse the system.
