What is Paste?
To make paste of an ingredient, pound the ingredient till fine, or grind it in a dry mixer. Once powder is formed, mix it with a little water. An ingredient can also be mixed with a little water and rubbed on a stone slab to make paste. A paste form of an ingredient makes it convenient to be applied externally.

What is Powdered / Grounded?
When the instruction is to add or mix a powdered ingredient, pound or grind in a blender the ingredient until it becomes powdery. (A coffee grinder can be used for this purpose). Powder is dry, when a little water is added, it becomes a paste. A powdered ingredient usually makes it convenient to be taken whole or added to water to make tea. Sometimes an ingredient is so potent that only a minute amount is applicable, so it is best to be stored in powdered form.

How to make Juice?
An ingredient can be taken in juice form by grinding it in a blender with a little water added. If just a little amount of a juice is needed, this can be obtained by pounding the ingredient till fine, or grating it, then wrapping it in thin cloth and squeezing the cloth to extract the juice. Juices can be both applied externally and taken orally.

What is Thumb-size?
A thumb-size means, literally, the size of your thumb! An approximate measure would be 1 - 2 inches in length.

What is Infusion?
A herbal tea, usually by placing 1 teaspoon in per cup of water, pour boiling water over them, cover the cup and let steep until cool enough to drink, which is about 15 to 20 minutes.
